After holding its annual summer conference in Fresno, California, for twelve years, The Jakara Movement has moved Lalkaar to Sacramento with the aid of the Sikh Student Association of Sacramento State. This year, Lalkaar’s topic is “Building Begampura: Confronting Caste.” Join Sikhs from throughout the United States to discuss issues and labels that continue to tear our Qaum, Gurdwaras, and even Pariwars apart. In addition to the educational opportunities afforded by the conference, Lalkaar provides great networking opportunities for young Sikhs, allowing them to forge durable bonds with the community. Lalkaar has provided a forum to discuss such issues for over a decade now, and hopes to have you participating and contributing to this year’s conference!

Aimed at young Sikhs, ages 18-25, the conference will begin on Thursday, June 21, 2012 and will run through Sunday, June 24, 2012. Participants engage in the conference curriculum during the mornings and afternoons, leaving such activities as picnics, ice cream socials, performances, and a formal banquet for the evenings.
